How To Create A Mid-Century Modern Office

I have always loved gardening, but a few years ago I realized that my garden needed a little tender loving care. I started focusing on perfecting my techniques and making the area stand out, and it was a lot of work. Before I knew it, I was adding a lovely pergola to part of the yard along with a nice play area for the kids, and it was really interesting to see how things were coming along. I wanted to create this blog to inspire other people to make their land more beautiful. Check it out for great information that could help you.

If you were big into the TV series Mad Men, then you may have been inspired by all of the unique and beautiful mid-century modern design in their office furniture. As one of the most popular trends right now in the design world, mid-century modern is a trend that's worth emulating; especially in your office. Whether you are decorating an at-home office or you are decorating an office at your place of work, there are a few ways for you to get that Mad Men vibe that you've been wanting.

Start With the Wall Coverings

The first thing that you should start with when you are redecorating almost any space, before even your office furniture, is the walls. If you want a more masculine vibe, then you may want to go with something that's a bit retro, like olive green, a mustard yellow, or even a navy blue if you're feeling daring. If you want something that's even more dramatic than paint, you can have some wood paneling put up in your office or you can do something like wallpaper.

Choose the Flooring

If you are decorating an office at your place of work, then you probably won't be able to redo the floor, so you will just want to go with a large oversized retro patterned rug instead. When choosing a retro rug, think about something that has a lot of geometric shapes on it which speak to the whole mid-century feel.

If you are remodeling your home office furniture and you also want new flooring, then one of the most popular types of mid-century flooring is either cork flooring or terrazzo which is a type of speckled flooring that screams 1970's.

Don't Forget the Furniture

Once your walls are painted and you've decided what you are going to lay on the floor, you then need to decide on the type of furniture you are going to put in your office. Remember that one of the beautiful things about mid-century furniture is that it has simple, minimalist lines. Choose a mid-century desk that's a bit of a honey-colored wood and that has really modern legs that are tapered at the bottom. Then, pair it with an office chair that's a combination of both wood and leather and that has a mid-century design to it. Once you have the desk and the chair picked out, don't forget to put out some. other mid-century chairs for people to sit in when they are visiting you.
